“The mind when housed within a healthful body possesses a glorious sense of power.”

Joseph Pilates

What is Pilates?

Pilates is the brainchild of Joseph Pilates, created in the 1920’s he designed the exercises to build a better connection to mind and body. Pilates represents a unique approach to exercise that develops body awareness, improving and changing the body’s postural and alignment habits and increasing flexibility and ease of movement. Pilates is a low impact form of exercise that incorporates functional movements, core strength and balance while providing a total body conditioning program that develops slenderness rather than bulk. By bringing together both the mind and body, Pilates teaches you to be in control of your body, helps to keep you upright and strong but most importantly functional for day to day activities.

Is Pilates for me?

Pilates is for everyone, regardless of age and fitness levels. I encourage everyone to attend the same class each week with the same people. Small groups are formed based on Pilates experience and objectives, this way I can ensure everyone progresses at a pace suitable for them.

“Karen is a fantastic and knowledgeable teacher. She is genuinely warm and caring but still able to keep pushing and motivating to make it fun and challenging. I had never tried reformer Pilates before and Karen continues to work with me to kemep developing while being mindful of my injuries. I feel energised after each class and can already see improvements!”
